Airborne Technologies showcases it’s capabilities at Avalon 2011

Fellow Austrian Mario Polaschegg of Scotty and Marcus Gurtner, Airborne Technologies Chief Sales Officer are all smiles at their joint booth at Avalon 2011

Marcus Gurtner beat back the jet lag to ensure the visitors to Avalon 2011 were fully briefed on the world of Airborne Technologies.

As in so many other countries around the world, suppliers of ‘airborne special services’ in Australia and New Zealand are under severe pressure to offer up more cost effective solutions. With the TECNAM MMA platform offering significantly lower operating costs in particular, Marcus had no difficulty in laying down the foundations of the first sales of Airborne Technologies offerings in Australasia.

TECNAM MMA always mission ready – 14 sorties completed in 9 hours!

Marcus Gurtner, Airborne Technologies, Chief Sales Officer briefing one of the many syndicates participating in the UK Tecnam MMA demo.

Reliability unsurpassed as Airborne Technologies CEO Wolfgang Grumeth and UK test pilot Tim Orchard fly 14 full surveillance missions in one day, as they showcase both the TECNAM MMA and Airborne Technologies capabilities to a number of potential UK based customers and authorities.

Many aspect of the world of surveillance are of course classified and of a clandestine nature, suffice to say both civil and ‘others’ dictated a wide range of specific mission profiles covering activity in both urban and rural areas.

Although some attendees provided both their own pilots and systems operators, Airborne Technologies flew in to Wycombe Air Park its own specialist personal and equipment, successfully promoting its ‘turnkey’ operations capability.

Those of us looking at the live transmissions beamed down from the TECNAM MMA to our large screen in the Wycombe Air Park lounge, were very impressed with the quality and range of images that were being transmitted to us. The resolution of the cameras and skill of the system operators was remarkable.

TECNAM MMA on the Wycombe Air Park dispersal, Wolfgang Grumeth (far right) briefing new MMA test pilot Tim Orchard

Wolfgang has just flown the TECNAM Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) direct from his home airfied of Wiener Neustadt in Austria for two days of intensive trials and demonstrations to many UK based potential customers.

Within 30 minutes of Wolfgang’s arrival, Tim took the MMA and two ‘evaluators’ into the air for a very successful demonstration of both the MMA’s capabilities and its newly certified range of surveillance equipment.

Wolfgang’s customers were very happy indeed with their flight, however those of us on the ground did have one complaint. We missed the takeoff. Those Rotax engines are just too quiet!
